Mixed Tocopherols
In a recent study of oxidative stress on human blood cells
published in the Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology (39, 5:714-21,
2002), researchers in Sweden combined alpha, gamma, and delta-tocopherols
and compared them with the effects of alpha tocopherol alone. The researchers
concluded that “a mixture of tocopherols has a stronger inhibitory effect
on lipid peroxidation induced in human erythrocytes than [alpha]-tocopherol
alone, due to higher uptake of [gamma]- and [delta]-tocopherol in the
cells.” Translation: While d-alpha tocopherols are most widely known,
a blend of alpha, gamma, beta and delta tocopherols have synergistic
benefits.
